Amidst the fear of new version of Omicron variant, the Thai government has made changes to its travel policies

Since the first reported case of the new Omicron variant in Thailand on December 6, 2021, the government has announced changes to its quarantine-free travel status for visitors. The Thailand Pass was one of the most significant moves by the country to reopen one of its biggest industries: tourism with nearly 40 million visitors in 2019.

Under the policy of 'Thailand Pass', the 'Test & Go program' which kicked off in November 2021, allowed fully vaccinated people from a low-risk country to apply to bypass quarantine on arrival. The Thai government has confirmed that 200,000 people have so far applied for the pass.

According to the government, it has told that the new changes won't apply to anyone who has already been accepted but new travelers will need to quarantine 7-10 days, depending on their origin country. The government has said that it is a temporary suspension with the travel policies being reviewed after Jan 4, 2022.
