It was supposed to start on April 1 but due to no agreement on the payment methods, it has caused a delay in the implementation for at least two months

Thailand, a very popular tourist destination in Southeast Asia, had launched a new tourism campaign, the 'Amazing Thailand New Chapter' in order to revive and rejuvenate its battered tourism industry after COVID-19. Under this program, a tourism fee of 300 Bahts or about 9 USD was supposed to be taken to facilitate this new tourism campaign. But now the Thai government has said that the tourism fee has been delayed for an indefinite amount of time.

This fee of about 9 USD was supposed to generate for Thailand about 40-55 billion estimated USD from tourists with 24 billion USD from foreign travellers. It was supposed to start on April 1 but due to no agreement on the payment methods, it has caused a delay in the implementation for at least two months.

The government had announced earlier that the fee will be deducted from the passengers' airfare and the airlines will have the responsibility of collecting and handling the fee. But the airlines asked for at least 3 months to prepare to accommodate such fee which has caused delays in the tourism fee.
