With the start of the tourist season, the number of trekkers along the Annapurna trekking route has seen a noticeable rise. This route, which is the most popular after the Khumbu trekking trail in Nepal, is now hosting over 150 tourists daily.
Bhupendra Gurung, head of the Dharapani-based Tourist Information Centre at the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in Manang district, confirmed the uptick, stating that the number of trekkers has reached 150 each day since the season began.
Hoteliers along the trail are also benefiting from this surge, with increased occupancy leading to a boost in economic activity.
According to Gurung, a total of 12,355 tourists have visited the trekking route so far in 2024, compared to 10,897 during the same period last year. Among the visitors, French nationals are the most frequent, followed by trekkers from Israel, Germany, and India.
The trekkers enjoy stunning views of the Himalayas and surrounding hilly landscapes as they journey from Mustang to Pokhara, crossing the Thorang La pass along the way.
