Tourists flood into the Trans-Himalayan Region as the risks of COVID-19 deplete over the last few weeks.

With the fear and paranoia over the COVID-19 virus receding in the past few weeks, the inflow of both, domestic and international tourists have shot up in the trans Himalayan district of Mustang.

The ventures of Local markets and tourism entrepreneurs are beginning to flourish as 3,000 tourists enter the Mustang and Lomanthang region through surface and air routes on a daily basis. Moreover, Jomsom Airport reports that a daily of 15 flights are taking place, while a long queue of surface transportation sits on the Beni- Jomsom road. The Chief of Jomsom Airport, Puskal Raj Sharma, that it was only after the resumption of the Mustang-Pokhara air service on March 6th that the number of daily flights increased to 15. With a capacity of 18 passengers in each flight, 250 tourists enter Mustang by air, while the other 2000 enter through the surface route on buses, jeeps and motorbikes.

In contrast  to the zero mobility of tourists during the 2 year hiatus of COVID-19, tourism entrepreneurs are finally optimistic about mobilising their services.

A large inflow of domestic tourists is anticipated for two reasons: first, due to the festival of Chaite Dashain where  individuals flood Kaagbeni to pay homage to their ancestors, and second, due to the advent of local cultural fairs in the region of Upper Mustang.

Devlal Poudel, a local of Gaindakot Municipality-12, mentioned that it was difficult to find a hotel room in Mustang due to the large distribution of tourists in the region.

Perhaps, after two years of recession, things are finally looking up for the tourism scene in Nepal.
