Following the ruling of a U.S. district court judge on Monday, the Biden administration announced that the Transportation Security Administration will no longer enforce the federal mandate requiring masks in all U.S. airports and onboard aircraft. Effective immediately, masks are optional for all airport employees, crew members and customers inside U.S. airports and onboard all aircraft domestically, as well as on most international flights.
Delta employees and customers may continue wearing masks if they so choose. Wearing a well-fitting mask protects the wearer, even if others around them are not wearing masks. Given the unexpected nature of the announcement, many airports, airlines, customers and employees that there might be differences from the local authorities on the implementation of the new change done by the US government
There might be some implementation of rules based on the previous orders in airports around the US during the next 24 hours as the new change and new rules in place are being broadly communicated to everyone to make them aware of the current situation and progress in the mask mandate in the airports. However, local mandates from other countries can still be in effect when travelling to those countries.
