Lack of timely snowfall and rain in Pathibhara region is having a direct and indirect impact on the ecosystem. According to the statistics of Pathibhara Area Development Committee, 20,000 religious tourists reach Pathibhara in a single day. Similarly, Kanchenjunga Himal, is the second highest mountain in Asia and third highest mountain in the world serves as the main source of income for the communities living in the Kanchenjunga region.
According to the statistics of the council, there are 52 small and big investment hotels operating on the footpath to Kanchenjunga Himal, targeting tourists coming to Kanchenjunga. Many of them are established with millions of investment. People are worried that if the mountain becomes like a black rock, tourists will not come to see the black rock.
According to Pema Sherpa, a hotelier from the region, “The tourist businessmen are worried that the beauty of the mountains has been lost due to the absence of snow."
The Kanchenjunga trail, which used to be packed with domestic and foreign tourists in the past years, is now deserted.
Office Secretary of the Kanchenjunga Conservation and Management Council, Mankumar Limbu, said, “From last August to November, 439 foreign tourists visited the Kanchenjunga Himal in four months. But, the arrival of tourists from November is almost zero.
As the snow melts in the mountains, which are as white as silver, they are becoming like black rocks. Last year, snowfall started in the Himalayan region of Taplejung from the third week of November. But this year it has not yet snowed.
Office Secretary of Kanchenjunga Conservation and Management Council, Manakumar Limbu said, “That the problem has started due to lack of timely snowfall and rain in the Pathibhara area. Tourists come to the mountains to observe and enjoy the snow-capped mountains.”_RSS
