The Panchami Mela to be held in the premises of Ichchakamana temple, a historical religious place of Chitwan, will not be held this year. The fair has been postponed due to fears of spreading coronavirus.
Chairman of the Ichchakamana Siddhababa Conservation Committee Ram Prasad Bohora informed that the fair will not be held this year. He said that the fair has been postponed as the corona could spread due to overcrowding. The fair, which is held every year on the occasion of Panchami, was held on November 6 and 7 this year. He informed that the temple will be opened for philosophy and worship on the morning of November 6 without any crowds.
There is a tradition of holding fairs all night and offering sacrifices in the morning. Since last year, the village municipality has started giving public leave on the day of the fair. Ichchakamana temple falls in Ichchakamana village municipality-5 of Chitwan. There is a legend that Ichchakamana is one of the seven sisters of Manakamana Mai.
After the opening of the road, the number of tourists visiting Manakamana has increased. Ichchakamana and Manakamana temples are on opposite sides of the hill. It is called Ichchakamana as it fulfills the desires of the tourists visiting the shrine.
Locals say that the number of visitors has not increased due to lack of transportation and publicity. Visitors who come to visit Manakamana temple now have to go to Ichchakamana temple from time to time. Despite the increase in the number of devotees and tourists compared to the past, the locals say that the publicity and the concerned bodies have not paid attention to it.
The temple is currently being rebuilt. The temple is being constructed with the financial support of the Bagmati state government and Ichchakamana village municipality, said Bohora. After the temple became dilapidated, construction was started by demolishing it from the foundation. According to him, the construction of the temple will cost Rs 30 million.
