The hotel industry in Lumbini Province has created direct employment opportunities for 60,000 individuals

The hotel industry in Lumbini Province has created direct employment opportunities for 60,000 individuals. Bhaskar Kafle, the founding Chairman of the Hotel Entrepreneurs' Association in Lumbini Province, reported that approximately 11,000 hotel entrepreneurs have been instrumental in generating these jobs across the province's 12 districts.

This sector has seen a substantial investment of around Rs 200 billion, with the private sector entirely funding this amount. Kafle highlighted that the government earns nearly Rs 400 million annually in revenue from the hotel industry.

Despite these figures, Kafle acknowledged that entrepreneurs operating small to mid-scale hotels, as well as star-rated hotels, have been facing challenging times due to the recent downturn in tourism. He suggested that the government consider providing temporary relief packages to help these businesses gradually recover.

Mahendra Shrestha, Chairman of the Hotel Entrepreneurs Federation in Lumbini Province, emphasized the importance of tourism promotion for the growth of the hotel industry. He mentioned plans to name hotel rooms after local heritage and culture as a unique promotional strategy.

Shrestha also pointed out the need for the government to create a positive environment for the hotel and hospitality sector. He expressed confidence that government policies supportive of the hotel and tourism industries would stimulate growth, thereby creating more employment opportunities. Shrestha urged all three tiers of government to focus on fostering a conducive atmosphere for these businesses.
