For the first time, Gosainkunda, the renowned pilgrimage site in Rasuwa district of Bagmati province, has been connected to the national transmission grid. This development marks a significant enhancement for pilgrims visiting the sacred site. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has made strides in bringing power to remote locations, and the arrival of electricity in Gosainkunda, situated at an altitude of 4,380 meters, is expected to ease travel for both pilgrims and local residents.
The power supply, which became operational on Friday evening, has transformed the area with its new electric lights. Kulman Ghising, the NEA’s executive director, highlighted that this milestone was achieved just before the Janai Purnima festival, a key religious event. Prior to this, the area relied on solar lighting.
Ghising noted that this initiative is part of a broader campaign to extend electricity to remote and significant sites across the country, including Susta, Annapurna base camp, Upper Mustang, and various monasteries, mosques, and temples. A 15-KVA distribution transformer was installed to facilitate the power supply over the eight-kilometer stretch from Chandanbari, with the project costing approximately Rs 30 million.
