The Japanese Government has provided Rs 14 billion to Rs 20 million loan to implement urban transmission and distribution system improvement projects in Kathmandu and Pokhara. The repayment of loan with annual interest rate of zero point zero one percent, which will be 30 years and an additional 10 years grace period. Japan has also provided a grant of two billion rupees to execute the rehabilitation and improvement project of Chandra Nahar irrigation system in the eastern Terai of Nepal.
On the behalf of Nepal, Finance Secretary Kashnahari Pushkar and Joint Secretary Ishwari Prasad Aryal and on the behalf of Japan, Ambassador Kikuta Yutaka and Chief Representative of JICA Nepal, Okubo Akimitsu, signed the agreement on grant and loan assistance at the Ministry of Finance.
The head of JICA Nepal, Akimitsu expressed his dedication to provide financial and technical assistance in Nepal’s agriculture, health, education, tourism, energy and other sectors to lift the economic and social standard of living of Nepalese.
Yutaka, Japanese Ambassador expressed the point of view of increasing the productivity of Nepal’s agricultural sector and also helping to manage electricity in urban areas through the available assistance.
Ambassador Yutaka relived, “The relationship between two countries has been harmonious for centuries. The standard of living of Nepalese will improve through cooperation in the fields of education, health, hydroelectricity and many more.”
In the program, the Finance Secretary says, “The implementation of the projects as per the agreement will contribute efficiently to improve Nepal's irrigation facilities, increase the reliability of electricity supply and reduce transmission leakage.”
Respecting the support received from the Japanese government in the socio-economic and human resource development of Nepal, he conveyed, “The hope that the long and harmonious relationship and development partnership between the two countries will succeed.”_Rss
