Part of Marriott’s Regional Goal of 100,000 Trees Planted

On World Environment Day 2025, Marriott’s hotels across India and Nepal marked a major environmental achievement—planting 100,000 trees as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability. This milestone builds on the success of Marriott’s “Two Trees per Room” initiative launched in 2024 and spans over 150 hotels in the region.

Aloft Kathmandu Thamel made a notable contribution to this campaign by planting more than 700 trees and organizing a staff-led clean-up along the Tarebhir hiking trail. Over 40 team members participated in the hike, collecting plastic and other litter, demonstrating Aloft’s dedication to both ecological restoration and community well-being.

"This year, we chose to take action on two fronts—planting trees for the future and cleaning up the present," said Vikram Singh, General Manager of Aloft Kathmandu Thamel. “The 700 trees we planted and the waste we cleared from the Tarebhir trail are both steps toward a greener, more mindful community. At Aloft, sustainability is not a slogan—it’s a culture we live and breathe every day.”

This regional effort is an expanded version of last year’s impactful “Two Trees per Room” campaign, which saw more than 32,600 trees planted by 4,900 volunteers. In 2025, Marriott amplified its environmental impact by collaborating with local partners to plant trees in areas chosen for their potential to support biodiversity and ecological recovery.

"Marriott India is incredibly proud to have successfully achieved our goal of planting 100,000 trees, a testament to our profound dedication to environmental responsibility," said Sanjay Gupta, Chairman of the Marriott India Business Council. “This ambitious goal truly underscores our belief that sustainability is not just a passing trend, but a fundamental pillar of responsible hospitality. We are committed to making a lasting, positive impact on our environment for generations to come.”

Through its local efforts, Aloft Kathmandu Thamel not only supported Marriott’s sustainability goals but also strengthened its own environmental and community engagement. The hotel continues to lead in eco-friendly practices, from energy efficiency to comprehensive waste management, further aligning with Marriott’s global sustainability vision.
