Receiving an all-time high footfall this year, revenue of Chitwan National Park has also increased

The jungle safari destination of Sauraha, Chitwan is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the country in terms of the number of international tourists visited this fiscal year. The first national park of Nepal, Chitwan National Park recorded 185,644 international tourists arrival in the current fiscal year which is 56.50 per cent higher than 2015.

Chitwan National Park, established in 1973 is a must see destination with rich flora and fauna for wildlife enthusiasts as it is home to 125 tigers and 605 one-horned rhinos. Jeep safari, elephant safari, boating, and bird watching on the banks of the Narayani and Rapti rivers are the major adventurous activities that attracts more tourists from various countries. As quoted in other news portals, Bed Kumar Dhakal, Chief Conservation Officer at the national park said, "We have received an all-time high number of tourists after 2014-15 when 178,257 foreigners had visited the national park."

Due to the earthquake and economic blockade in 2015-16 and then the disastrous condition of the Narayanghat-Mugling highway, the numbers of international tourists visiting Chitwan dropped but with the improvement in road conditions and political stability, the tourists number started to increase. Dhakal further added, "The recorded number of tourists on the basis of entry tickets issued by the park, included 300,000 to 400,000 domestic tourists and international tourists. The national park earned Rs 291 million from entrance fees this fiscal year, which was Rs 248 million in the last fiscal year."
