World Tourism Day marked at Thamel

The World Tourism Day has been marked on September 27 each year since 1980 and this year the Day was observed around the theme –'Rethinking Tourism'. 

Thamel Tourism Development Council organized the rally, which started near the Employee Provident Fund building area and ended after traveling via Jyatha, JP Mode, Chaksibari, Satghumti, Pipalbot, and Amrit Science Campus.

On the occasion, Council chair Bhabiswor Sharma said such an event can help to revive the tourism industry, which is severely affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. He also noted that the majority of tourists that visit Nepal make their way to Thamel, and the purpose of today's activity is to boost tourism in Nepal in the aftermath of the pandemic.

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the Council has organized a cultural feast and a program for the evening.

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the Bhaktapur municipality in Bhaktapur welcomed and honored the first tourist squad from abroad arriving at Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

Bhaktapur mayor Sunil Prajapati was there to welcome the first comers to the heritage site with a shawl, a Bhadgaunle topi (a typical cap), a bouquet, and special gifts featuring the historic and cultural identity of the town.
