Organisers announced on Monday (July 25) that the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Britain in 2023, after concluding that hosting the popular pop extravaganza in the designated host country, Ukraine is too risky.

The United Kingdom stated that the 2023 event would be a celebration of Ukrainian culture and creativity.

Ukraine won the right to host the glitzy pan-continental music competition when its entry, from the folk-rap ensemble Kalush Orchestra, won this year’s contest in May.

Eurovision's organiser, the European Broadcasting Union, stated that due to safety and security concerns, "unfortunately, next year's contest could not be hosted in Ukraine." The BBC in Britain has granted authorization for the program to be broadcast, claims the Ukrainian broadcaster UA: PBC.

Mykola Chernotytskyi, the managing board chair of UA:PBC, declared that “The 2023 Eurovision Song Contest will not be in Ukraine but in support of Ukraine.”

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, and Boris Johnson, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, have discussed the fate of Eurovision song competition 2023.

Johnson said the two had agreed that “wherever Eurovision 2023 is held, it must celebrate the country and people of Ukraine.” _AP
