Amidst the chaos of COVID-19, the government has announced many changes in the rules of taxi transportation with the fare of the taxi service operating with the approval of the state government has been adjusted. The ministerial meeting held on January 4 has fixed the fare and has addressed many other aspects of taxi transportation, taking effect from January 20.

According to the revised fare, the first one-kilometre journey of the taxi service in the Kathmandu Valley has been flagged at Rs 60, according to the Ministry of Transport, Bagmati Pradesh. After the initial one kilometre journey, nine rupees per two hundred meters has been fixed at the rate of eighty paisa. The ministry has informed that taxis should use the meter completely. 

The driver of the taxi should provide a visiting card, in Nepali and English with the details of the vehicle number, contact number of the driver to any customer. The goods left in the taxi should be kept safe by the service provider and the nearest police should be informed. The ministry has also stated that the service recipients should be treated fairly without any bias and taxis should be cleaned regularly.
