The International Tourism Fair FITUR 2022 opened its doors at IFEMA Convention Center in Madrid Spain. The event, which lasts till 23 Jan, brings 7,000 tourism companies and 60,000 professionals visiting the venue. While there will be heavy strict health regulations, the convention is going forward amidst hopes of a revival in the tourism sector.
With Spain's tourism revenues totalling 100 billion dollars it makes up about 7.4 per cent of the country's GDP last year. Before the pandemic, it constituted about 12.4 per cent of GDP in 2019. With tourism being such a significant part of the Spanish economy, it hopes to revitalize and rejuvenate the travel and tourism sector in 2022.
