The Russia-Ukraine war might be impacting Nepal’s tourism industry. The Russian invasion of Ukraine starting from the 24th of February, 2022, rippled into several short term and long term consequences across the world, inevitably impacting Nepal as well.
The tourism industry of Nepal faced the brunt of the COVID pandemic and had just begun to see a significant inflow of tourists after the lockdown. Not only did city tours gain traction among international tourists, but adventure tourism in Nepal opened their gates after the government revised its travel policies. However, the ongoing war between Russia-Ukraine has resulted in the surge of global crude oil and has affected the disruption of international flights.
According to the data released by Nepal Tours and Travel Association (NTTA), some 4,000 to 5,000 Russians and a good number of Ukrainians had visited Nepal in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
