Ncell aims to prove 4G telecommunication services in the Everest region by building 5 BTS towers

Ncell, Nepal’s first private sector telecommunications company, is building the world’s highest cell phone tower at an altitude of 5,200 metres on Mt. Everest. Officials have stated that this will provide dedicated ultra fast 4G connectivity in the Everest Region.

Although 4G service is already available in the Everest Base Camp, there is no infrastructure that is dedicated to serve mountain communities in regards to efficient internet connectivity.

Ncell aims to erect base transceiver stations(BTS) in at least 5 locations in the Everest region, and have further claimed that their 4G services will be live in the area by the fourth quarter of this year.

The development of such infrastructure paves the way for local businesses and those in the tourist sectors to use 4G access to create innovative experiences for their consumers.

An initial report by Ncell has shown evidence that the 4G signals can even be received on the Everest summit, although an exact result can only be extracted after the administration of a full scale test. The BTS towers are to be erected in Thame, Somare Pari Hill, Dingboche, Thukla Hill and Pyramid Hill.
