The ETC thinks that relaxing travel restrictions will drive up domestic and intra-European travel will contribute to most of the future tourism revenue

While the new Omicron variant that spread through wildfire during the end of 2021 especially through Europe, blunting the recovery of the European countries, the European Travel Commission (ETC) predicts that tourists arrival while below pre-pandemic will recover significantly.

While the Omicron didn't cause as much of a disruption as the original COVID-19, with thousands of flights cancelled due to staffing shortages, airlines losses peaked at about 18.5 billion Euros in 2021 resulting in 1.4-1.5 billion fewer passengers than in 2019. But despite Omicron stunting the European tourism industry, the ETC remains optimistic about the recovery and revival of the travel and tourism sector in European markets.

The ETC thinks that relaxing travel restrictions will drive up domestic and intra-European travel will contribute to most of the future tourism revenue. Meanwhile, it suspects that travellers and tourists from outside Europe will be slower and is not likely to full recover until 2024.
