To celebrate World Everest Day, the Children's Rights Committee of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality Ward No. 26 organized a climbing festival, commemorating the historic ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa on May 29, 1953. This event also aligned with Lalitpur Metropolitan City's centennial celebrations. In 2019, world-record holder and Everest climber Kalpana Maharjan proudly raised Lalitpur's flag at the summit of Mount Everest.
The event aimed to honor Kalpana Maharjan's remarkable achievement and featured enthusiastic participation from children who learned climbing skills from her. A one-day introductory climbing program was organized for students from every community school in Mahalakshmi Municipality. Additionally, the Ganesh Mavi School Management Committee in Ward No. 8 of Godavari Municipality, along with other organizations, celebrated Everest Day by hosting various events.

A competition held at the Pasang Lhamu Climbing Centre in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu, saw fervent participation from students of Ganesh Mavi School in Ward No. 8 of Godavari Municipality, with 60 contestants. In the boys' category, Dipesh Danuwar secured first place, followed by Arun Danuwar in second, and Dipendra Danuwar in third. Among the girls, Sansheela Tamang took first place, Sarita (Indra) Danuwar second, and Mariam Thokkar third. The winners were awarded cash prizes, medals, and certificates in recognition of their achievements.
Kalpana Maharjan's feat of hoisting the flag on Everest in 2019, representing all three municipalities, served as the inspiration for this celebratory competition, which honored the spirit of mountaineering and community unity.
