Cathay Cargo, a renowned air-cargo service brand, has been honored with the prestigious "Cargo Airline of the Year" award at the 49th Annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards organized by Air Transport World (ATW). The award recognizes Cathay Cargo's exceptional performance in overcoming operational challenges and demonstrating innovation, agility, growth, and expertise.
The gala dinner held in Istanbul provided an opportunity for Cathay Cargo to officially receive the award and celebrate its achievements alongside other recognized airlines. The selection process involved a panel of editors and analysts from esteemed organizations in the aviation industry, including ATW, Routes, Aviation Week, and CAPA.
Karen Walker, the Editor-in-Chief of ATW, highlighted the resilience and market recovery within the air transport industry, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, which was reflected in the winners. Cathay Cargo stood out for its continuous growth, adaptability, and innovation in the face of challenging circumstances.
Throughout 2022, Cathay Cargo successfully addressed significant operational obstacles by introducing improvements and new solutions. It revamped its Priority and Cathay Pharma services to meet customer demands, digitized processes through the Click & Ship digital booking platform, expanded its Fly Greener carbon-offsetting initiative to cargo shipments, and inaugurated the dedicated Pharma Handling Center at its Hong Kong hub.
Tom Owen, Director of Cargo at Cathay Pacific, expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the dedication of their cargo colleagues worldwide in delivering operational excellence and responding to customer needs. He also highlighted recent initiatives such as Cathay Mail, which provides greater visibility for postal customers, and multi-modal shipments from the Greater Bay Area through the Hong Kong International Airport Logistics Park.
Frosti Lau, General Manager Cargo Service Delivery, accepted the award on behalf of Cathay Cargo and expressed confidence in their strategic direction. Lau acknowledged the fruitful outcomes of their investments in a differentiated service and praised the commitment and hard work of the global team. With Hong Kong's full reopening and its retained status as a leading cargo hub, Cathay Cargo is well-positioned as it relaunches its brand.
In addition to the award, Cathay Cargo has been chosen as the host airline for the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) World Cargo Symposium 2024. This upcoming event will gather air cargo professionals from around the world to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in various areas such as technology and innovation, security and customs, cargo operations, and sustainability.
