19,766 tourists have been reported to arrive in Nepal in February compared to just 9,146 last year, and better than the 18,000 tourists that visited the country in January of last year

With the third wave finally gone with the Omicron variant dealt with rising vaccination rates, the tourism industry has surged ahead booming in recent months. Recent statistics by Nepal Tourism Board(NTB) has shown that tourists arrivals in the country have increased by a whopping 116 per cent.

19,766 tourists have been reported to arrive in Nepal in February compared to just 9,146 last year, and better than the 18,000 tourists that visited the country in January of last year. But the NTB has reported that these numbers are still far below pre-pandemic levels and has been trying to promote tourism by focusing on the South Asia region especially India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The data shows that this month the highest number of tourists came from India with about 5,998 visitors with the US at second with about 3,614 Americans visiting Nepal.  Then came the UK with 2,217 British travellers and Australia came with 1,052 visitors. The major absence has been China with strict quarantine still in place in China, only 205 Chinese visitors have been reported to visit Nepal this month.
