With the upcoming spring season being the first mountaineering season after the wake of the pandemic, the Department of Tourism (DoT) has been issuing permits to ambitious moutain climbers. According to the DoT, it has given about 142 permits to scale about 12 mountain eaks in the upcoming season so far.
In addition, there have given permission to launch 19 expedition teams. Out of them about 4 of them are Nepali comprising of 23 Nepalis in total. Looking at it from the basis of mountains, 25 climbers have received permits to climb Mt. Annapurna, 23 for Mt. Ama Dablam, 16 for Mt. Himlung, 17 for Mt. Nuptse, 11 for Mt Mt. Dhaulagiri, 8 for Mt Kangchenjunga and Mt Bhemdang, 5 for Mt Lhotse, 4 for Mt. Dhampus and two for Mt Gangapurna.
These mountaineers and permits have made the DoT about $372,600 in revenue so far. The Russian mountain climbers which mad the significant part of the mountain tourism sector in Nepal have been disrupted by the Russian-Ukraine conflict. Many from Russia, Ukraine and Eastern European countries have cancelled their expeditions, hampering the recovery of tourism sector after the pandemic
