The Hindu tradition of Pitru Paksha has commenced with the start of Asoj Krishna Paksha.

The Hindu tradition of Pitru Paksha has commenced with the start of Asoj Krishna Paksha. Asoj Krishna Paksha, also known as Sora shraddha, is primarily performed annually in commemoration of the family members who have passed away.

In accord with the Maithil Hindu tradition, people visit shrines and make offerings of tarpan and pinda in honor of the deceased. According to ritualists who are bound by tradition and do Shraddha, Hindu Maithil is in a sattvic sovereign during this time because they believe that the deceased souls visit Matryaloka (Earth) and immediately receive the tarpan and pinda offered by their children.

According to the Thila custom, the deities are summoned on Bhadra Purnima, the day before Pitrutarpan is initiated which is known as devtarpan.

There is a tradition of Parvan (Mahalaya), Ekoparvan, and Tirthashraddha throughout Asoj Krishna Paksha.

Mahesh Kumar Jha, a resident of Bardibas Municipality-2 in Mahottari, says that there is a Hindu Maithil tradition of performing Parvan in memory of the deceased and Ekaparvan in memory of (deceased) ancestors.
