The Nepal-Switzerland Bilateral Consultations Mechanism (BCM) meeting in Switzerland provided an in-depth review of the broad spectrum of Nepal-Switzerland relations, spanning economic ties, development partnership, multilateral cooperation, and contemporary global issues such as climate change and human rights.
During the meeting, discussions centered around various key aspects, including the exchange of high-level visits, Nepal's graduation from the LDC category, and progress towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. Both sides explored avenues to further enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, science and technology, and vocational training.
The fourth meeting of the Nepal-Switzerland BCM took place at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in Bern, Switzerland. Leading the respective delegations were Joint Secretary Ganesh Prasad Dhakal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and Assistant State Secretary for Asia and the Pacific, Heinrich Schellenberg, from the FDFA of Switzerland. The Nepali delegation also included Ambassador of Nepal to Switzerland, Ram Prasad Subedi, and embassy officials, while the Swiss delegation comprised officials from the FDFA and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
During the meeting, Joint Secretary Dhakal urged the Swiss side to encourage their investors to participate in the upcoming Nepal Investment Summit in Kathmandu. The Nepali side expressed gratitude to the Swiss Government for consistently prioritizing Nepal in Swiss Development Cooperation efforts. The Swiss side, in turn, assured continued support for Nepal's development endeavors.
Established in 2015, the Nepal-Switzerland Bilateral Consultations Mechanism aims to facilitate dialogue and cooperation between the two countries. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on mutually convenient dates, as confirmed by the Embassy.
