KATHMANDU
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai has said that the development work is being carried out to attract religious tourists from all over the world to the Pashupati region.
He informed that the ministry has formed a technical committee to finalize the proposed master plan on the occasion of handing over the eco-friendly crematorium jointly organized by Pashupati Area Development Fund and Everest Bank today. The committee has to submit a report to the ministry within three months after discussing it with the concerned bodies including the locals.
"The cabinet has decided to open religious and cultural heritage by adopting health protection methods. The fund will allow visitors to enter the temple so that the infection does not spread," he said. Member Secretary of the Fund, Dr. Pradip Dhakal, said that the crematorium is being expanded in collaboration with various organizations as the number of cremators is increasing in the Pashupati area.
Added eco-friendly crematorium
Bodies can be cremated in 100 to 150 kg of firewood in an eco-friendly crematorium. At present, at least 400 kg of firewood is required for cremation in Bhashmeshwor and Aryaghat, said Dr. Ghanshyam Khatiwada, executive director of the fund.
The bank has constructed a crematorium at a cost of Rs 7.5 million and handed it over to Member Secretary Dhakal today. Handing over the crematorium, Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, GK Negi, said that the demand for firewood is increasing across the country as it consumes less firewood and is environmentally friendly.
The bank has already constructed similar crematoriums in Pokhara and Bhairahawa and handed them over to the state government. It will also take less time to cremate the body in this crematorium. According to the fund, the bodies will be cremated in one to one and a half hours. At Bhashmeshwar Ghat, it takes at least three hours to burn a corpse.
Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Negi, said that the purification has been done before reaching the exit as the smoke coming out of the crematorium has been passed through the chimney. There are 18 crematoriums at Aryaghat and Bhashmeshwar Ghat in Pashupati area, two electric crematoria and one eco-friendly crematorium. The fund has stated that it is preparing to add a device in the electric crematorium.
The bodies of the deceased have been cremated at the electric crematorium. The fund has stated that it is preparing to cremate the bodies of the deceased from Kovid-19 in the environment-friendly crematorium which has come into operation from today.
