Lower Dolpo Trek
One can never get enough of the Dolpo region for it is filled with vast landmass, numerous culture, astounding landscapes and rugged geographical feature. The remoteness of the region makes is original and authentic place to set foot on. Lower Dolpo Trek has been beloved trek for foreigners in the recent times after the region was dehiscent to foreigners.
We take multiple flights from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and Further Nepalgunj to Jhuphal to begin our Lower Dolpo Trek. The flight itself comes as an adventure for some tourists due to the flying route being through narrow hill gorges and steep mountains. Juphal offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and colorful fields overlooking the blue sky. This trek passes through 2 major passes, Numa La(5190 meters) and Baga La to find ourselves amidst the tranquil water of Lake Phoksundo. Lake Phoksundo has 20 small stupas located to its southern end and prayer station to the eastern end with prayer falgs hung up above. Dolpo is one of the few regions that still practices pre-Buddhist Bon-po religion. You will be left wondering after looking at the Yak caravan headed to Tibet for salt trading which is still the major means of transport in Dolpo.
