This journey to Pokali Waterfall was one filled with marvel and wonder. It has left an indelible mark on my heart, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to explore this hidden gem in Okhaldhunga
As I set out on my adventure to Pokali Waterfall in Okhaldhunga, Nepal, I had little knowledge about how to get there. All I knew was that Pokali lies in Okhaldhunga, and if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a rainbow dancing amidst the cascading waters. Excitement and curiosity filled my heart as I headed to the old bus park in Kathmandu to begin my quest.
At the bus park, I inquired about the waterfall and the best route to reach it, but it seemed like nobody had much information to share. After some searching, I learned that the shortest route to Pokali was from Ramechap, though the exact source of this information remained somewhat uncertain.
Choosing the longer route, I boarded a bus bound for Sanghutaar in Ramechap. The journey began at 8:00 A.M. sharp, and after about 7-8 hours of travel, we reached Sanghutaar. The place offered affordable accommodations, and to my surprise, I stumbled upon a vintage Yashika Camera that was 25 years old—a delightful find!
The following morning, our true expedition commenced as we hiked for approximately 3 hours along the scenic banks of the Likhu River to reach Sirishe. I later learned that direct transport to Sirishe was now available, but I have no regrets about the experience gained through our chosen path. At Sirishe, we enjoyed a hearty morning meal at a local inn, still in Raamechap. The sight of the waterfall nestled among the hills was already visible from here, teasingly close yet still distant.
As we crossed the Likhu River, Okhaldhunga finally came into view. The next 3-hour ascent took us through lush farms, quaint villages, and the sounds of gushing streams and brooks. And then, finally, after what felt like an eternity, we could hear the thunderous roar of Pokali Waterfall from about 500 meters away. The anticipation was exhilarating!
Describing the entirety of this journey in mere words is a challenge. The committee's efforts in creating a pathway were truly commendable. The steps they built allowed us to witness the waterfall from a breathtaking vantage point. As we stood at the foot of the cascades, the deafening sound of the water made conversation difficult. But as we climbed the steps, a whole new world opened up before our eyes. We found ourselves gazing upward at a 75-degree angle, trying to spot the origin of the waterfall—an awe-inspiring sight!
I highly recommend visiting Pokali Waterfall during the rainy season, in July or August, to witness its full grandeur. Plan your trip accordingly to enjoy the sight under the sunny sky, and you'll be treated to a stunning rainbow formed by the sun's rays dancing with the waterfall's mist.
This journey to Pokali Waterfall was one filled with marvel and wonder. It has left an indelible mark on my heart, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to explore this hidden gem in Okhaldhunga. If you ever find yourself in Nepal, don't miss the chance to chase rainbows and experience the majesty of Pokali Waterfall!
