Janai Purnima, which falls in the month of Shrawan, is one of the most sacred festival and symbolises a connection of purity and security for those who follow Hinduism.
Purnima signifies the full moon, while Janai means sacred thread. On this day, Hindu Nepali men of the Brahmin and Chhetri clan participate in their annual practice of changing their 'janais' after taking a bath in the holy river of Bagmati or Vishnumati or other nearby river with a belief in having control over body, mind, and speech.
