Pauline’s Rooftop invites patrons to try out their new Game of Thrones themed drinks

Cosy and comfy, Pauline's rooftop is high above the busy streets of Pani Pokhari. The place came into operation with the intention to become an after-work junction and it is rightly so. With their flavoursome tidbits and unique cocktails, Pauline’s Rooftop is the perfect place to take a break from your everyday routine.  

Although the outdoors is surrounded by high-rise buildings, the area is decorated very thoughtfully with colourful and interesting murals on the wall, ornamental plants and comfortable chairs. To beat the chilly winds, they also have heaters.

I chose to sit indoors to escape the chilly winds of Kathmandu’s winter. The floor-to-ceiling windows and leather-bound couches along with warm lighting creates a relaxing ambience where you can easily unwind.

As of recent, they’ve started the ‘Winter is coming’ themed menu for the season. And I was intrigued as soon as I heard of the different drinks. Every cocktail was named after the characters of the prominent show ‘Game of Thrones'. For instance, The  Lannisters/Rum Eggnog, Daenerys Targaryen/House Buttered Rum, Jon Snow/Classic Irish Coffee. As a fan of this series, I was very excited to try some of these drinks.  

Jon Snow/ Classic Irish Coffee

Among their specials, I tried the Classic Irish Coffee named after Jon Snow. The drink is a concoction of hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar and whipped cream. Its first sip is rich and sweet, just to my liking. The drink lightened up my mood instantly. 

Arya Stark/Twist on Old-Fashioned

Next up was the Arya Stark, which was Twist on Old-Fashioned. It is a classic cocktail with whiskey, bitters, sugar and toasted walnuts. This drink is perfect for the chilly evenings. I could taste the smooth whiskey as it went down my throat. The smell of roasted walnuts definitely gave off a delicious aroma.  

If you are more of a wine person then you can also try their Choice of Mulled wines, which is made of mulled marriott or mulled sauvignon blanc with spices and fruits.

The owner, Naresh, spoke to us in length about how he came up with the idea of themed drinks. “With winter in hand, me and my team came up with the plan to add a winter menu. Since, I have always been a huge fan of 'Game of Thrones' and their characters, the ‘Winter is coming’ theme from the series just felt right", he says.

The tricks while making drinks by the bartender Amrit will amaze you for sure. With such attentive staff, amazing cocktails, and a cosy ambience, Pauline’s Rooftop is the place to go to enjoy a drink. They also have occasional live performances by popular musicians.
