Ang Tshiring Sherpa Memorial Golf Tournament, a golf tournament held in memory of late Ang Tshiring Sherpa, Managing Director of Yeti Group of Companies and a tourism entrepreneur, is scheduled to be held on March 6 and 7. The two-day event will be held at Gokarna Forest Resort, Nepal’s only golf course with 18 holes. Considering the global pandemic, the event has been divided two days to accommodate the large number of golf enthusiasts. The tournament will be played in a stableford format with ¾ handicap over 18 holes.
Chief Security officer and Spokesperson of Yeti Airlines, Sudarshan Bartaula, said that this tournament will be an annual affair with a vision to promote Nepal as a golf destination. Late Mr. Sherpa was a pioneer in promoting new tourism destinations in Nepal and source of inspiration for young golfers and golf enthusiasts. "Yeti Airlines plans to make this tournament more comprehensive and systematic in the years to come by holding tournaments in different historical and tourist destinations from the far west to the east of Nepal" said Mr. Bartaula.
The main winner of the competition will be awarded with a trophy and a travel package worth Rs 500,000. Other winners will receive special travel packages sponsored by companies and resorts operating through the same group. These include Air Dynasty, Himalayan Airlines, Yeti Airlines, Tara Air, Yeti Mountain Home, Moksha Resort, Gokarna Forest Resort, Kasara Resort and Ker & Downy. The main organizers of the tournament are Yeti Airlines and Gokarna Forest Resort. The entry fee collected from the participants will be donated to a charitable organization.
