A well-preserved Roman-era mosaic panel was found in a residential neighborhood in the Homs region of central Syria.

The 4th-century artifact is covered in tens of thousands of colored mosaic pieces composed of tiny grains of glass in a design that is unmatched by any other excavations. The flooring panel, which is 20 meters long and 6 meters wide, belonged to a building's hall, most likely a castle, according to the archeologists from Homs and Damascus, who also noted that further pieces of the whole mosaic have still to be discovered.
