TangTing is an authentic Gurung village perched in the Annapurna region of Nepal’s Kaski District. Known for its breathtaking Himalayan vistas, vibrant culture and community‑based tourism, it offers travellers immersive homestays, traditional lifestyles, and a gateway to nature. With basic health and education facilities, the village is a growing example of sustainable rural tourism.

Location & Geography

TangTing is located in Ward No. 2 of Madi Rural Municipality, Kaski District in Gandaki Province, Nepal. It lies roughly 2 hours’ drive northeast of Pokhara city along the Madi River valley on vehicular track towards Lamjung.

The village sits at an elevation of around 1,650-1685 m, nestled below Annapurna IV and Lamjung Himal, and offers jaw‑dropping views of the Annapurna range, including peaks like Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri from surrounding viewpoints.

Rich subtropical forests, waterfalls, streams and terraced slopes surround the settlement, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and cultural travellers alike.

Natural Landscapes & Outdoor Experiences

TangTing is celebrated for its 360° panoramic mountain vistas. Popular viewpoints include Nauju Danda and Krapu Choh (Gurung Hill) offering expansive Himalayan views and sunrise/sunset photography opportunities.

Within walking distance are dense forests rich in biodiversity, traditional stone‑paved paths, terraced farmlands and pristine wilderness; perfect for short hikes, birdwatching or tranquil relaxation.

Communities & Culture

The majority of villagers belong to the Gurung ethnic community, known for rich traditions, hospitality, unique handicrafts and vibrant festivals like Dashain, Losar, Maghe Sakranti and more. Other caste groups also reside here, contributing to the social fabric.

Traditional Gurung dress, music, dance and Rhodhi communal song gatherings are part of daily village culture, and local Mother Groups and youth engage visitors during festivals or cultural programs.

Homestays & Community Tourism

TangTing has embraced community‑based tourism with a network of homestays operated by local families. Guests are welcomed into village homes with traditional meals and warm hospitality; providing authentic experiences of rural life, organic food and Gurung culture.

There are also small guest houses and lodges offering more comfort for travellers seeking longer stays or basecamp accommodation.

Homestay stays are often accompanied by local guides; perfect for exploring nearby hills, cultural sites and nature trails.

School & Education

Education in TangTing is anchored by Shree Himalaya Milan Secondary School, first established as a primary school in 1956 and later upgraded to full secondary education eliminating the need for students to travel hours to distant towns.

Health & Community Facilities

TangTing has a local health post providing primary care and emergency first aid.

Other community facilities in the village include the ward office, a conservation area project office, access to national electricity supply, mobile network connectivity, and limited banking and financial services to support daily needs.

Lifestyle & Economy

Agriculture remains the backbone of village life, producing staples such as rice, wheat, barley, maize and vegetables, with livestock farming supplementing livelihoods.

Many villagers also contribute through service in the British Gurkha regiments, remittances and small business ventures tied to tourism and craft production.
