‘Bhoto Jatra’ ends the month-long celebration of Rato Machhendranath Jatra. Rato Machhindranath is revered as a god of good harvest and prosperity. Paying homage to the Lord is believed to bring good luck and fulfill one’s wishes. Every year, the 32hands long chariot of Rato Machhendranath is pulled around different places of Lalitpur finally reaching Jawalakhel where the Bhoto Jatra or the displaying of the Bhoto of Lord machhindranath takes place. A large number of people visited the chariot during the month to pay offerings and light butter lamps. Bhoto Jatra is an annual ritual where a jewel studded vest or Bhoto of the Lord is displayed to all, including high ranking dignitaries.
