Soaltee Crowne Plaza is organising a 10-day event, ‘Celebrating Women and the Home’ from July 25 to August 3 at Kakori Restaurant within the hotel premises

A promotional programme for ‘Celebrating Women and the Home’ was held on July 24 at Kakori Restaurant in Soaltee Crowne Plaza. The event was attended by General Manager of Soaltee Crowne Plaza Kathmandu, Upaul Majumdar; Owner of Tasneem’s Kings Kitchen, Tasneem Shahani; Executive Chef, Yubaraj Pokharel and media.

This annual programme organised by Soaltee Crowne Plaza celebrates great home cooked food passed down from generations made by the greatest chefs – our mothers and grandmothers. Bringing Parsi flavours to the plate and sharing recipes from her mother-in-law’s and mother’s repertoire, Tasneem Shahani is the home cook celebrated under this event.

The event started with a welcome speech from General Manager, Upaul Majumdar. In his speech, he said, “Crowne Plaza as a part of IHG we believe strongly in gender diversity and here at Soaltee Crowne Plaza, we’ve created a supportive work environment for women. We also believe in excellent community relationships to promote local people and cultures. With these beliefs in mind, we’ve come up with this event ‘Celebrating Women and the Home’, empowering women and recreating the home cooked food in the hotel to bring new tastes to our customers.”

Tasneem Shahani shared her experiences and thanked Soaltee Crowne Plaza for organising this event. She said how her origin as a Bohra Muslim and her marriage into a Parsi Sindi family has allowed her to learn a variety of different cuisines. She briefed about the Parsi dishes that would be served. Executive Chef, Yubaraj thanked Tasneem for sharing the insider secrets and the recipes of the Parsi dishes.

As they say in Parsi ‘Jamva Choloji’ which means ‘let’s go eat’. The event proceeded with a buffet-style supper featuring the iconic Parsi delights like Mutton Dhan Saak (slow cooked mutton with lentils and seasonal vegetables), Patrani Macchi (fish fillet marinated in green chutney and steamed inside a banana leaf) and Chicken Farcha (chicken marinated in traditional spices and deep fried with a coat of egg batter). Other available dishes were Brown Rice (caramelised rice), Vengna ni Tarkari (eggplants with tomato, onions and nut), Vegetable Dhan Saak (lentils cooked with seasonal vegetables), Dudhi ni Tarkari (Gourd cooked with fresh tomatoes, garlic and curry leaves), Sali Boti (mutton cooked in tomatoes and onions with bold spices), Lamb Kebab, and Parsi Mava Cake (light buttery cupcake with slight hint of cinnamon).

Tasneem Shahani will be weaving in the flavours of these centuries-old Parsi dishes, tying them together with rich taste, aroma and textures. This special Parsi à la Carte menu will be available at Kakori Restaurant in Soaltee Crowne Plaza from July 25 to August 3. Relish the new taste of the lavish Parsi dishes and celebrate women and the home.
