Yala peak, situated at 5,732m, is located in the beautiful Langtang Valley. Yala summit climbing is considered as one of the easiest climbing peaks of Nepal. Yala peaks are good for those enthusiastic climbers who want to gain experience of climbing peaks without much difficulty and struggle as Yala is less technical and straightforward towards its destiny. Yala peak is very close to Tibetan Border and north-east of Kyangin Gompa (3870m) in the Langtang Valley. It is the trekking peak of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).

THINGS TO OBSERVE

From the Yala Peak Summit, stunning views of popular mountains like Shishapangma (8046m), Langtang Lirung (7245m), Dorje Lakpa (6990m), Naya Kanga Peak (5844m), Gangchempo (6,387m) and many other snow-capped peaks can be seen. Trekking at Dhunche will offer you to explore the dense forest of Rhododendron, Oaks, and Pines forest. Similarly, you will also trek through Langtang National Park which is home to the variety of endangered animals and spices. Not only Nepalese side, you will also witness the spectacular natural beauty and peaks of the Tibet side which will add more color to your trip. Similarly, at the Langtang area, you will be overwhelmed by the warm greeting and hospitality of the local people which will make you stay at that place for a long period of time. Also, being nearer to the Tibet border, the community is highly influenced by Tibetan culture and can observe ubique kinds of customs and traditions.

Getting there

The trip of Yala peak expedition starts from Kathmandu and then drives to Syabrubesi as Langtang is just a few km away from Kathmandu so you don't need to catch a flight. From Syabrubesi, you will treak through Langtang National Park and reach Kyanjin Gompa. At Kyanjin Gompa, Yala base camp will be set and after climbing Yala peak, you will return back to Kathmandu by drive from Syabrubesi.

BEST SEASON

The best seasons for the Yala Peak Expedition are Spring ( March to May) and Autumn (September to late November), however, it can be climbed in other seasons too. Most of the tourists come during these seasons, so the routes may be a bit crowded. Some may prefer to avoid the crowds, and climb Yala Peak during the winter months (December to February). At this time, the weather is crisp and cold and the views of the mountains are crystal clear. If you are well prepared for the cold weather, the winter is also a great time to climb.

TIME DURATION

Yala Peak, the smallest of all the trekking peaks in Nepal, can be done in the shortest time. It will take a maximum of 2 days to climb Yala peak from Kyanjin Gompa. Overall, in total, this trip takes 10 to 15 days which can be extended as per your wish and sometimes take more days because of bad weather conditions.

The Yala peak expedition cost starts from USD 1,000 and can cost higher than this depending upon your preferred services and facilities.

REQUIREMENTS

To summit this peak you need to have a high level of physical fitness and moderate level of technical climbing

Experienced- Climbers should have successfully completed a minimum of 3 Day Mount Rainier or Mount Baker Climb (or have similar experience). 

Mental Ability- Climbers must be mentally prepared to deal with strenuous situations at high altitudes.The requirements are also based on your desire to have similarly skilled team members.

Travel Documents: PP size photos, valid passport, insurance paper, family members contact address etc.

Mountaineering equipments- Crampons, Ice axe, Helmet, Harness, Lock and unlock Carabineers, Shovel, Climbing pack, Rope, Ski poles, Jummer, Tapes, Prusik Loops, Rappel device, Hand Warmer etc.

Clothing and Wears- Snow google, Wool cap, Thermal Underwear, Trekking shoes with spare laces, Mountaineering Boots, Gore-Tex pants, Long shorts, Insulated Parka, Jumper, Waterproof Jackets, Down Jacket, Fleece Vest,Neck Gaiter, Gloves etc.

Gadgets- Map, Compass, Camera, GPS, Two way radios, Binoculars, Head Lamp, Flashlight etc.

Other equipment: Sleeping bags, Bag packs, Sun stuff, Medical, Eating and Drinking stuffs, Toiletries, Fleece hats and so on.

PERMIT AND REGULATIONS

For climbing Yala peak, you need to have following permits;

TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System)- NRS 1000 (USD 9) per person if they have come in a group and NRS 2000 (USD 18) per person if they have come individually.

Langtang National Park Entry Permit- For entering the Langtang National Park, the park that is home to the Langtang valley, for Yala Base Camp, you need to obtain an entry permit. This permit costs around 30 USD + government tax.

It is the peak of Nepal Mountaineering Association whereas its height is below 5800m and peaks below 5800m don't need permit before climbing. However, other permits will be taken by your trekking company and will charge a specific amount of money. Without a valid permit you are not allowed to climb Yala Peak. Also, one needs to pay fees for Liaison Officer, his/her insurance, food allowance, Insurance of whole Nepali staff including porters in order to obtain permit and Garbage Deposit at ministry.

RESTRICTIONS

In Nepal, climbing Yala peak imposed certain kind of age, health restrictions and they are;

Age- Minimum 16 and no restriction has been set in upper age till now

Health- Should have a strong body, risk taking mindset and health should be free from any kind of sudden attack diseases.

NOTE: Till now in Nepal, permits to climb mountains in Nepal are issued by Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) to 33 peaks and rest of others permits are issued by the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation
