Australia, the world's sixth-largest country, is blessed with abundant natural beauty. From the vast beautiful beaches, mountains, cities, island and rare exotic wildlife, Australia has it all.  Australia, officially known as Commonwealth of Australia, is a collection of mainland Australia, Tasmania and other numerous smaller islands. The capital city is Canberra and its largest city is Sydney. The majority of cities lie in the eastern part of the country. There is a huge diversity in the country with the desert in the center, huge mountain range in the south-east and tropical rainforest in the north-east.

Australia offers visitors a huge variety of recreational activities and attractions which can match the taste of every tourist visiting there. The following are the main attractions and places to visit while exploring this vast country.

Great Lakes, Great Barrier Reefs and Beaches

Great Barrier Reef

Being an island, Australia boasts many beautiful beaches that are perfect to lay down and enjoy the sun. The famous beach forms a golden crescent of soft sand around the deep blue Pacific ocean making it an ideal location for Surfing and Scuba Diving. Beaches like Bondi Beach in Sydney, Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park, Whitehaven Beach in Whitsunday Island are some of the beaches of Australia.

The Great Barrier Reef of Australia needs no introduction. It is on the top of many adventure seeker's bucket list. This amazing reef is made up of over 3000 reef systems, 600 continental islands, 300 coral cays and inshore mangrove island. It houses stunning marine life like 1600 tropical fish, dolphins, turtles, sharks and rays. The Barrier reef is heaven for free divers, snorkelers and scuba divers all around the year.

Lake Hillier

Although being an island, Australia consists of many big lakes like Lake Eyre, an area of 9500 square km, Lake Torrens, an area of 5745 square km and many more. Lake Hillier, a pink lake, attracts not only tourists but also scientists because the reason for the lake being pink has not been identified. Other pink lakes such as Pink Lake and Senegal Lake are also well known for their colour.

Gippsland Lakes is a network of beautiful lagoons, marches and lakes. The calm water of the lagoons is perfect for children. Activities like boating, sailing, wind-surfing, fishing will keep the explorers occupied. Due to algae blooms and bacteria, in perfect condition, at night the lake glowes. The luminescence is decreasing but during midnight swim in Gippsland, swimmers can catch a faint glow around them.

Luring Landscape

People not fond of water and lakes, Australia also have something in its sleeves for them too. The diverse landscape provides Australia with stunning mountains and sea cliffs. The Blue Mountain located in New South Wales border to Sydney can be a great quick getaway for locals and visitors from the city life. This beautiful landscape provides wonderful trails for hiking, scenic driveways along with cable-car ride and railway tours, and adventure sports like cycling and canyoning. 

Another main attraction will be Ayers Rock (Uluru) which is at the heart of Australia's Red Centre and is believed to be one of the most photographed natural wonders. It rises 348 meters from the plain surface. Similar to Uluru, Kata Tjuta is also famous, sightseers gather to see the heavenly sunset, that steals their heart. Cape Pillar Sea Cliffs is a must-see tourist attraction located in Tasmania. Visitors can see the cliffs from a boat ride or do a 40km hard hike around the Cape Pillar Circuit. The circuit will reward an unparalleled view of Cape Pillar Sea Cliff but also of Cape Hauy, Monument Lookout and Tasman Island.

Endemic Wildlife

Although most of the country is covered with desert, the country is home to a vast range of exotic wildlife. Australia has six national parks, 58 marine parks protecting the unique and isolated wildlife and marine ecosystem. Around 83% of mammals, 89% of reptiles and 93% of amphibians inhabiting the continent are endemic. The endemicity is believed to be caused by tectonic stability, long geographical stability and climate. Australia is home for two of the five known extant species of monotremes. Venomous species such as Spiders, Scorpions, Jellyfish, Stingrays are also prevalent in large numbers. Among well-known species Platypus, Thorny Dragon, Echidna, Wallaby, Dingo, Kangaroo, Koala, Wombat and birds like Emu and Kookaburra are the main pull for the visitors. 

More than 5000 species of fish inhabit Australian water, of which 24% are endemic. About 300 species of freshwater fish are found due to the scarcity of freshwater. Exotic freshwater fishes like Brown Trout, Brook Trout, Atlantic and Chinook Salmon, Mosquitofish can be seen in the rivers and lakes of Australia. 

Dazzling Cities

Sydney Opera House

The cities of Australia are not ideal, offering visitors a great dining experience, bars to have a good time and mesmerizing architecture. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, Gold Coast are some of the important cities. Sydney Opera House is one of the iconic pieces of architecture (the world's most recognized building) located to another equally famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. In the Sydney Harbour Bridge, every year, people gather to welcome the New Year with spectacular fireworks which is a sight to see. Taronga Zoo provides a chance to the visitors to meet Australia's wonderful and unique wildlife without going to the wild. 

Queen Victoria Market place is a famous landmark in Melbourne. From generation, this market place has been the best place for shopping. Tourists can find everything from clothes, handmade crafts, fresh Australian delicacy and entertainment. Art lovers can visit The National Gallery of Victoria where remarkable collections of Asian, American and European art are displayed.

Kings Park, located in the heart of West Perth, is one of the largest city parts. Kings Park has become a spring of greenery in the concrete city. It offers playing ground, picnic areas, outdoor cinemas and theaters. There is something to do for everybody.
