Kathmandu is a city for foodies. Along with the delicious Nepali food, you also get a variety of food here ranging from Indian, Chinese to Continental. There are numerous cafés and diners around the valley that provide people a good environment to enjoy their lunch and dinner. However the city doesn’t have a lot places to enjoy a good healthy breakfast. One of such place is Café Soma.

With branches in Balwatar and Jhamsikhel, Café Soma is one of the best breakfast place in the city. Especially its Balwatar branch where you can hang out in their nice and tidy garden all day sipping coffee while you’re reading a book or working on your laptop.

Most cafés in Kathmandu have a limited menu when it comes to breakfast. But at Café Soma it’s not the case. Their breakfast menu has a plethora of items to choose from as they have given a lot of importance on what is the most important meal of the day.

Apart from the ambience of this place, the sheer variety of food on offer will leave you spoilt for choice. They serve a very heavy full cooked breakfast that includes bacon, sausages, mushrooms, baked beans, eggs and toast. They also have a beef steak breakfast for the ones who crave for a well-cooked steak.

The eggs benedict is quite nice and comes in the form of a muffin with bacon, poached egg and a sauce on the top. The hash browns and the banana chocolate muffin along with the red velvet cake is well received by the customers.

People often mistake Café Soma for coffee place, but there more to it than just coffee. Although the fresh coffee is excellent, the variety of food on offer makes it one of the best places to visit in Kathmandu. The meal is prepared with a Nepali twist, topped with a range of local coffee, sandwiches & burgers, panini, soups, salads and assorted bakery items. Their pancakes are soft, fluffy and probably the best in the valley. The food is well served and is full of flavour. Steak with veggies and grilled salmon are totally worth ordering. They also have a loyalty card that gives us a free drink after buying 9 drinks.

The place isn’t limited to breakfast. The lunch and dinner options are quite decent too giving us a choice between burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, soups and salads. The potato wedges that comes with the burgers are also well received. The garden is also ideal to have a drink after a long day at work.

The place with its light and airy atmosphere along with its bookshelves gives a very European feel. It definitely offers a calm getaway from the busy streets of Kathmandu. The place is perfect for groups, for a business chat or just spending time alone reading the newspaper in the morning.
