Welcome the Year of the Dog with a mouth-watering array of fusion Chinese dishes at Hyatt Regency

There’s no better way to welcome the Chinese New Year than through what the Chinese are most popular for – their exquisite and mouthwatering array of food options. This is what awaits you at Hyatt Regency, Kathmandu from 16th February to 23rd February. Executive Chef Santosh Kumar Koradi and his team have exclusively created the menu for the festival – that covers just about everything. From picture-perfect starters, delectable main courses to enticing dessert options, the menu seems to have it all.

To start off, the first thing we tried was Crispy Vegetable Rolls with Chilli Sauce that just about set the right mood for the festival. With a crispy texture yet flavorful on the inside, the tiny rolls strongly resemble the iconic Chinese Dim Sum. Dipped in some hot Chilli sauce (if you can handle the spices), tastes perfect. Moving on to the main course, the central element was the Moon Fan Rice, an absolute delight with small bits of prawns, chicken and pork. The rice is perfectly suited with the Wok-fried duck, and for someone who had never tried duck before, it was simply a lot of tasty surprises. The duck has a soft texture yet on the first bite reveals an exquisite explosion of flavor and is a personal favorite of mine. Other dishes that were equally good were Steamed Tofu with oyster sauce & Bell peppers and Wok tossed spinach & black mushroom with garlic and chilli- good options for vegetarians.

But if you’re looking for some authentic Chinese food than this necessarily might not be your first choice. When I ask the Chef Santosh about the speciality of the menu he says, “I wanted to create something more progressive to fit a more modern taste of the people”. He is certainly right. As you taste their dishes, you’ll find out that it’s not exactly what you’d call ‘authentic’ but this very difference gives the food a unique and exquisite taste. The out of the box ideas have certainly turned the food and presentation for the better, making it completely unique.

Whether giving the food a rustic look with a different choice of serving dishes or preparing the food by slow cooking for as long as 7-18 hours (for some meat-based delicacies), the menu is top notch and uniquely experimental, giving you all the more reasons to try it.

Hyatt Regency has been organizing many food promotions from time to time which has been an excellent medium to deliver international taste to the local community – one such being the New Year Chinese Festival on its third consecutive year. To celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year with good food and enjoyment, you know where to go to.
