PATA - Nepal Chapter hosts its 41st AGM

Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) - Nepal Chapter hosted its 41st Annual General Meeting on 13 December 2017 at Hotel Shangri-La’s newly launched event space Pavilion and Courtyard. The new Executive Committee has been unanimously appointed under the new chairmanship of Sunil Shakya, Chairman KGH Group of hotels.

The event started with a vision of bringing in 5 million tourists with most guests being from the travel trade fraternity. The chief guest of the event was Maheswar Neupane, Secretary Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation who was joined by Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO NTB and the Key Note speaker for the evening Dr. Yuv Raj Khatiwada, former vice chairman of the planning commission.

PATA – Nepal Chapter since its inception in 1975 has been galvanising the united strength of its membership in the promotion and the publicity of tourism in Nepal. They have been committed to serving its members in a distinctive manner to build business, people, network, brand and insight facilitating many opportunities to connect internationally and bring access to more members in over 70 countries around the world.

Talking as Chairman of PATA - Nepal Chapter for last time Suman Pandey said, “Thank you all for being present here to be a part of our 41st AGM. Today is my last day as chairman of PATA Nepal Chapter and after serving for 5 years, time has come for me to step down. I had a wonderful experience and I shall be helping in any way I can so we can make vision 5 million a success. I want to wish the new chairman and the executive committee all the best for the future. And finally, I want to thank everyone who helped and supported me during my tenure.”

  

The event also honoured partners of PATA Nepal chapter where the committee presented some with awards. First of those awards was the Best Student Chapter award which was won by National College of Travel Tourism Hospitality Management (NCTTM). The next award was the Personality of the Year which was given to one of the tourism pioneers of Nepal, Karna Shakya who is the founder of KGH Group of Hotels.

  

The keynote speaker for the night Dr. Yuv Raj Khatiwada spoke about how we can move forward as a nation and the need for more private sector representation in the Tourism Board. Talking about vision 5 million Dr. Khatiwada said “With the hope of a stable government I think Vision 5 million will be a success. But we will have to work very hard in order to get there.”

Addressing as Chairman of PATA Nepa for the first time, Sunil Shakya said, “This has been a very humbling event for me and I’d like the opportunity to thank everyone present here. I feel a sense of profound gratitude and feel an immense responsibility to be joining this office as a chairman where I’ll be working very hard to make sure we reach our goal of vision 5 million.”

The formal event was followed by cocktail dinner in the Courtyard.
